Frequently asked questions
What’s included in the fee?
The camp fee includes meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner) and all camp activities. All meals will be catered, so no cooking equipment is needed. Transport to/from the camp site is not included. The participants need to bring their own tents, unless otherwise is agreed.
Where will I sleep?
All accommodation is in tents. Hammocks are allowed, but the use of “treehuggers” is obligatory. The participants bring their own tents. If this is a major problem, we can try to find a solution, so do ask!
What will I eat?
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be catered, so you won’t get to enjoy your friend’s cooking (unless they work in catering)… On the other hand, you will not do any cooking (unless you work in catering, of course). The menu will probably not be posted anywhere in advance. Any dietary requirements are taken into consideration and prepared separately. Remember to let us know of your needs when you register! To help your aching sweet tooth (or coffee tooth if you’re Finnish) head to the camp kiosks and cafes!
Will I meet any Finns?
Certainly! All international guests will be placed with Finnish camp groups (one or more Finnish local groups tenting together). If you know who you’d love to camp with, let us know! All international guests will live and play with the camp according to their age. More information on the activities will be available later. If you’re an explorer or older, you will be assigned at least a short duty or task to perform on camp.
What will I pack?
A full packing list will be provided later. Prepare for pretty much any weather (maybe not snowstorms) from a 30+ heatwave to sideways rain at +5 degrees Centigrade. The participants bring their own tents. If this is a major problem, we can try to find a solution, so do ask! All meals will be catered, so no cooking equipment is needed.
Will there be mosquitoes? Wasps? Other nasty bugs?
The site is not very favourable for mosquitoes or blackflies, since it’s rather dry and relatively windy. So, on Finnish terms, probably no. But no guarantees. Wasps seem to enjoy scouting, too, so expect some striped company for the meals (they love berry juice, so check your cup before you sip) – but we only have small ones. And like everywhere, there’s ticks. Make it a habit to do a check every night.
